(Baonghean) - Tet is approaching and the flower market is moving with many types of flowers and ornamental plants with diverse "designs" being launched on the market. This year, flower players can easily choose suitable items at affordable prices, without the "virtual" fever like previous years.

Rich market

These days, along Lenin Avenue (Vinh City), hundreds of types of flowers and ornamental plants are blooming and being sold by vendors on both sides of the road to welcome the peak season for the upcoming Tet holiday. And Tet seems to have come earlier here as the flower stalls are bustling with sellers and buyers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, owner of Ngoc Nga flower shop, said: “This year there are many new types of flowers and most of them are imported from Hanoi. Many types of flowers come from flower gardens near Vinh City such as Nghi Lien, Nghi An…

In particular, strawberries, a plant that is only suitable for cold climates and has long been grown mainly in Da Lat, have appeared in our province this year, bred and grown by people in Nghia Dan district. Because they are "homegrown", the price is also very reasonable, only about 100,000 VND/basket (including vase). This year, some traditional flowers tend to return, including dahlias with many colors, hydrangeas, firecracker plants... Some other flowers, although only recently appeared, have been quite "attractive" to customers, including the fairy flower. The characteristics of this flower are that it is very fragrant, has many colors, and the roots are grown in a glass vase, creating excitement for viewers and allowing them to observe the entire growth process of the plant. When purchased, the flowers are usually still in bud form, but after 1 week of care, they will bloom and can retain their color for 1 month. The price of flowers is only about 100,000 VND/vase, quite affordable for flower lovers...”.

If last year's Tet holiday, the average price of a basket of flowers such as hydrangeas, lotuses, etc. could range from 150,000 to 200,000 VND, now the price is only half. As for the flowers grown in the province, for only 30,000 to 60,000 VND, everyone can own a beautiful flower pot to play Tet. The ornamental plant market also has many types of plants for customers to choose from depending on their budget, in which the most popular types are money trees, ironwood, and Japanese bamboo. The reason this year's prices are cheaper than previous years, according to Ms. Pham Thi Nhung, a store of the Ornamental Plants Association, is because "gasoline prices have decreased, so transportation costs have also decreased".

In addition, observing the purchasing power this year, we also see that there are many people going to see flowers, but few people buying. Partly, it could be because the flowers for Tet are mainly short-term flowers and usually only last for one Tet season, so customers are hesitant to buy early, afraid that the flowers will fade quickly. As for orchids, they have not appeared much this year, but according to experienced flower sellers, the price of flowers this year will not have many fluctuations, even cheaper than last year. However, there will be quite a lot of Chinese flowers mixed in, so when buying flowers, buyers must be very careful. Flowers grown domestically often have long lower flaps, round buds and colors that are not as colorful as those from China but last longer. On the contrary, Chinese flowers look eye-catching but are mostly flat buds, "ripe" by spraying stimulants so they can only be played for a short time.

The kumquat market has also “started up” but there are still few buyers. Currently, some shops have just introduced small kumquat pots priced at around 120,000 - 200,000 VND to customers. According to flower shop owners, this year kumquat will be the tree chosen by many people, because the weather is quite favorable, and it is a leap year so peach blossoms have bloomed in many places. As the day draws near, the peach blossoms will not be as beautiful as every year.

Planning 5 Tet flower markets

Although the Tet flower market has just begun and the number of buyers is not large, mobile flower shops have sprung up more and more. Along with that, it is inevitable that people use the sidewalks and sidewalks to do business. Talking about this, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hac, the owner of a bonsai shop on Le Nin Avenue, said: Her family came from Nam Dinh to Vinh to do business in flowers and bonsai for Tet. Her products are large, wide-canopy trees, so they need a large area. Because there is currently no large place to arrange them, the family still takes advantage of the sidewalk, where there is no construction yet, to display and sell easily to customers.

Because of this fact, this year the city's urban inspection force started 1 month earlier than previous years. Accordingly, the unit was divided into 5 teams to work with the urban regulation teams of wards and communes to regularly inspect the roads, paying special attention to key wards such as Ha Huy Tap, Nghi Phu, Cua Nam, and Hung Phuc.

In addition, after 5 p.m., the urban inspectors will also divide into three separate teams to remind and guide people on some main roads such as Le Viet Thuat Street, Le Nin Street, and Phan Chu Trinh Street. Through the inspection, Mr. Tran Thanh Son, Captain of the Vinh City Urban Order Management Team, said: Most people when the inspection team arrived, they strictly followed the instructions. However, the urban inspectors cannot be present 24/7 at hot spots, so the situation of encroachment on the sidewalk for business still occurs.

In fact, the closer to Tet, the busier the flower and ornamental plant business becomes and people encroaching on the roadside is inevitable, especially along Le Nin Avenue, Phan Chu Trinh Street, Quang Trung Street, Ho Tung Mau Street, Nguyen Trung Ngan Street... In previous years, to limit this situation, the city assigned wards to plan a number of flower selling points such as Hung Dung Ward Stadium, Truong Thi Stadium or in the inter-agency planning area of the province close to Le Nin Avenue. That has also created many conveniences for traders, especially for those from other localities coming to do business during Tet. Some others have rented or borrowed premises from unfinished construction sites to gather goods and only brought a small amount of ornamental plants to the sidewalk...

Mr. Tran Thanh Son, Captain of the City's Urban Order Management Team, added: The need to play with Tet flowers is a very legitimate need and this is also a cultural feature of the people every time Tet comes. The city also believes that it will create all favorable conditions for households to do business and in the near future there will be a specific plan. In addition, the wards will be assigned to directly contact the land units, taking advantage of vacant land to arrange flower selling points to avoid congestion. What we want most is that the people will support and cooperate to have a flower market, but still ensure "clear roads and airy sidewalks".

According to the plan, the Vinh City flower market in 2015 will have 5 locations, focusing on the following areas: The central flower market area in the Central Park; The parking lot area in front of the main gate of the Central Park organized and managed by the People's Committee of Le Mao Ward; Vinh Tan Ward will manage the vacant land along Le Mao Street (extended, from Ngo Duc Ke Street to the end of the street, about 250m long), the land in Cua Nam Lake Park assigned to the People's Committee of Cua Nam Ward and finally the vacant land belonging to the project of Viet Lao Economic Joint Stock Company on Le Nin Street, the vacant land belonging to the project of Trung Do Joint Stock Company on Duy Tan Street, the stadium land of Hung Dung Ward on Nguyen Phong Sac Street, all organized and managed by the People's Committee of Hung Dung Ward. Vinh City also requires that when organizing the 2015 At Mui Spring Flower Market, the units assigned to organize and manage the flower market are responsible for working with the agencies and units currently managing it. At the same time, during the organization process, it must ensure a reasonable location for the organization site, ensure traffic safety, security and order, labor safety, environmental sanitation and coordinate well with functional units during the organization process; especially, the land must not be used for purposes other than organizing the Spring Flower Market.
