In response to the psychology of waiting for tax reductions in early 2018 of car buyers, many promotional and discount programs have been launched by dealerships of a series of car companies to clear out inventory at the end of the year.

Car buyers still waiting for tax cuts

Unlike the end of the year in previous years when customers wanted to buy a car to use during Tet, this year many people who want to buy a car choose to watch and wait.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, a civil servant working in Cau Giay District (Hanoi), after nearly 20 years of working, has saved enough money to buy a car. He shared: “My family is looking at a car priced under 500 million. Through research both online and at dealerships of many car brands, I have found that there are car models that have been deeply discounted that I previously did not dare to think I could buy. Because the prices of many car models have been deeply and quickly reduced, I want to wait until early 2018 when the import tax on cars from ASEAN is 0% compared to the current 30% to see if the car prices will decrease further,” Mr. Tam shared.

According to Mr. Tam, buying a car is a big asset for his family. For many years, they have been riding motorbikes. Whenever the family needs to go somewhere, they take a taxi. Even new taxi companies like Grab and Uber are very convenient, so there is no need to rush.

According to Dan Viet reporter’s research, there are quite a few people who need to buy a car like Mr. Tam but have not decided when to “put down the money” at this time. That is why a series of dealers of major car companies have launched many car discount programs to stimulate demand to “clear inventory” at the end of the year.

To gain market share at the end of the year, not only do dealers have promotional programs, but it is worth mentioning that a series of "big guys" such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Ford continue to offer discount programs in November.

Specifically, Toyota has reduced the price of all car models such as Vios from 48 to 58 million VND depending on the version, the cheapest is only 484 million VND and the most expensive TRD version is only 586 million VND. The new Corolla Altis line also reduced by 31 million VND to 905 million VND for the 2.0V Sport version. Or even the MPV Innova line also reduced from 42 to 50 million VND.

Mitsubishi also reduced prices across the board, with the low-cost sedan Attrage reduced by 50 - 60 million VND plus 10 million from the dealer, Mirage reduced by 70 - 75 million VND, new selling price ranges from 388 - 458 million VND. Or Pajero Sport when the price reduction ranges from 100 - 180 million VND.

Opportunity to "use" cheap luxury cars

Not only cheap cars, luxury cars priced at over 1 billion VND are also offered strong discounts by manufacturers.

Specifically, Pajero was also adjusted by Mitsubishi Japan to 1.956 billion VND (a decrease of 164 million VND). Or the SUV line considered to be the top of the line, All New Pajero Sport, also reduced sharply to 196 million VND and added 10 million VND from the dealer, so the price is only over 1.1 billion VND and over 1.3 billion VND depending on the version.

In addition to new cars, luxury used cars are also creating for many consumers to own cars at surprisingly low prices. A look around online car markets at the end of the year shows that many luxury cars have been deeply discounted, despite the fact that according to statistics, used cars imported to Vietnam are increasingly rare.

Specifically, find the 2008 Land Rover Freelander, imported for 885 million VND or the 2010 Land Rover Freelander HSE imported for 980 million VND, while the same version from 2016 costs more than 2.1 billion VND. Or the 2008 Porsche Cayenne costs more than 990 million VND. The 2007 Cadillac SRX imported from the US costs only more than 565 million VND...

Recently, the information that many people have been "whispering" to each other related to the BMW 320i line priced at 1 billion VND, 520i priced at only 1.5 billion VND has also attracted a lot of attention. This information has been shared by many people that Truong Hai will liquidate about 700 cars worth 15 million Euros that are being held at ports in Vietnam, mainly in Ho Chi Minh City. Of which, there are about 470 BMW cars, 78 MINI cars and 56 BMW Motorrad motorbikes. However, Truong Hai has not yet confirmed this information, but if it is true, the opportunity for Vietnamese people to use luxury cars at cheap prices at the end of the year is too great.

Audi Vietnam confirmed that it will liquidate about 400 luxury cars after the APEC Summit, including sedans and SUVs of the A4, A6, Q7 and A5 Sportback lines (Photo: IT)

In another development, the "big guy" Audi Vietnam also announced that it will liquidate about 400 luxury cars after the APEC Summit, including sedans and SUVs of the A4, A6, Q7 and A5 Sportback lines.

Although the selling price of these used cars of Audi Vietnam is not much lower than the price of cars on the market with the same version, the representative of Audi Vietnam also confirmed that, up to now, the entire batch of cars only has models A4, A5, A6, while models Q5, Q7 have been sold out. The main reason shared by the General Director of Audi Vietnam is that the cars serving APEC 2017 are produced exclusively for Vietnam with limited quantity and special equipment.
