According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), in March, automobile sales of members of the Association totaled 9,513 units, an increase of 1,624 units compared to the previous month.

The above total output does not include the output of Vietnam Automobile Industry Corporation (Vinamotor). Last month, this unit sold 887 vehicles. If Vinamotor's estimated sales this month are equivalent to February, VAMA's total sales in March will be 10,400 vehicles, an increase of 2,511 vehicles compared to February.

In March, Truong Hai officially took the No. 1 position from Toyota with sales of 3,085 units. With only 2,357 units sold, Toyota officially lost the "king" position to Truong Hai Motor. However, sales still grew impressively from 2,223 units (in February) to 2,357 units.

In the previous year (April, May 2010), Truong Hai also surpassed Toyota to take the number 1 position in car sales in Vietnam.

Other members of VAMA ranked behind in terms of sales, respectively: GM Daewoo with 902 units, Vinaxuki: 746 units and Suzuki: 613 units.

The last 5 car manufacturers with sales under 100 units are Mekong (Fiat, Ssangyong, PMC) with 96 units, Sanyang (SYM) with 93 units, Mitsubishi (Vinastar) with 86 units, Samco with 28 units and Vinacomin - Vinacoal with 4 units.

Also according to the sales report from VAMA, the total number of domestically produced and assembled vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2011 reached 27,896 units, an increase of 30% over the same period last year. Of which, the commercial vehicle segment increased by 16%, multi-purpose vehicles increased by 34% and passenger cars increased by 47%.

Experts say that after a period of price storms, consumer sentiment has gradually stabilized, and demand for purchasing means of production and daily life has recovered. This is an optimistic signal for the economy.

The move that underpins the above statement is that in the last month of 2010 and the first two months of the year, transportation and manufacturing companies often cut back on new vehicle purchases and only start buying again after the Tet holiday. In March 2011, the total number of commercial vehicles sold reached 4,648, an increase of 1,125 compared to the previous month.
