Entrance exam for grade 10, school year 2011-2012: A fierce race
(Baonghean) -Today, 46,600 9th grade students in Nghe An province took part in the 10th grade entrance exam. While the high school graduation exam is considered the finish line after 12 years of studying, the 10th grade entrance exam is a highly competitive transitional step. Because out of nearly 46,600 9th grade students registered for the entrance exam, Nghe An Department of Education and Training only recruited 41,710 students into public, private, and cultural supplementary systems. In particular, the race to get into the list of 32,100 public system students is somewhat more intense.
In the 2011-2012 school year, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training will enroll 41,710 students for 980 classes (accounting for 77.85% of grade 9 students), including 767 public classes with 32,100 students (accounting for 59.91% of grade 9 students); 143 private and non-public classes with 6,395 students (accounting for 11.94% of grade 9 students); 70 supplementary cultural classes with 3,215 students (accounting for 06.0% of grade 9 students). Accordingly, the number of grade 9 students admitted to grade 10 decreased by 6,320 students compared to last year, but the rate of admission to grade 10 increased by 0.33% compared to the 2010-2011 enrollment period. Of which, public schools increased by 4.02%; Private and public education decreased by 2.67%; cultural education increased by 1.01%.
Of the 41,710 targets, the majority of students are targeted at 32,100 public school students. Students want to choose the public school system because they enjoy many incentives in terms of tuition fees, facilities, teaching staff, and the quality of teaching and learning at schools with decades of tradition.
It is known that students with good academic performance all register for the city's top schools, schools that in 2010 had a standard score of 33-35 points. The rest only register for schools near the "top", close to home and avoid the top schools.
For example, students from schools: Le Loi Secondary School, Ha Huy Tap (Vinh City), most of them registered NV1 at Ha Huy Tap High School; students from schools: Le Mao Secondary School, Hung Dung,... registered at Le Viet Thuat High School... In 2010, these schools had a standard score of 33-34 points and were located close to the students' residential areas. Particularly, the classes with the highest quality level in grade 9 of schools: Le Loi Secondary School, Le Mao, Ha Huy Tap, Hung Dung,... (Vinh City) had about 50-60% of students registering to take the exam at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, specialized schools and specialized groups. Most of the candidates registering for these schools were excellent students for four consecutive years in secondary school.
Based on the number of candidates registered for the exam, this year schools in Vinh city have high competition rates: Le Viet Thuat High School recruited 546 students for grade 10 and had 1,169 students registered for the exam, Ha Huy Tap High School had 546/1,095 students registered for the exam, Huynh Thuc Khang High School had 581/1,078 students registered for the exam, etc. For the plain districts, Dien Chau 5 High School recruited 504/1,234, Quynh Luu 2 recruited 588/1,163, Dien Chau 4 recruited 546/1,149. In the mountainous areas, Ky Son Ethnic Minority School had 630/990 candidates registered for the entrance exam to grade 10 of high school in the 2011-2012 school year. According to the assessment of many management staff, the choice of schools for students is becoming more and more reasonable. Students have learned how to choose to avoid falling into the "danger zone". Students who have registered NV1 for top schools in the admission areas will register NV2 for lower schools, based on the previous year's benchmark scores. Most candidates have measured their abilities, they do not choose schools with the highest benchmark scores in each admission area last year, but schools near the top are schools with a higher number of candidates registering for the exam with the hope of opening up more opportunities.
However, there are also mountainous schools with low "competition" rates such as Tuong Duong 1, Tuong Duong 2, Quy Hop 1. In particular, there are 2 schools where the number of candidates registering for the exam is not enough to enroll: Cat Ngan High School has 265 students registered, while enrolling 294; Muong Qua High School has 143 students registered, while enrolling 168 students.
In the 2011-2012 school year, Nghe An continued to conduct the entrance exam for grade 10 in the three subjects of math, literature and foreign language. The exam content is in the middle school curriculum, focusing on grade 9. The exam is in essay format, including an advanced section to meet the entrance exam. The first subject is literature, followed by foreign language and finally math.
In the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2011-2012 school year, Nghe An had 66 high schools organizing the exam, establishing 84 examination councils with 1,971 examination rooms. To do a good job of supervising the exam, Nghe An mobilized more than 4,533 officials, teachers, more than 204 inspectors and 874 police officers to protect the exam. This exam is highly competitive, so the Steering Committee for the 2011 exams of Nghe An province continues to direct the Department and related agencies to thoroughly implement the exam work. The Department requested the councils to tighten the supervision of the exam, established 4 mobile inspection teams and assigned 20 inspectors of the Department to be stationed at the examination councils. The exam took place on 2 days, June 23 and 24, 2011.
