Computing devices that mimic human senses

December 19, 2012 10:46

Future computing devices will further develop human senses to mimic the ability to see, smell, touch, taste and hear, according to computer maker IBM's annual forecast released on December 17.

IBM predicts that computers and other computing devices will become more capable of mimicking human senses and be able to use algorithms to precisely determine the chemical structure of foods and why people like certain smells and tastes.

According to this forecast, in the next five years, tiny sensors attached to computers and mobile phones will allow diagnosing whether someone has a cold or some other disease by analyzing taste, biomarkers and thousands of molecules in the breath.

In addition, the above tools will also help doctors diagnose and monitor outbreaks of diseases such as liver and kidney disorders, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy./.
