On April 21, Türkiye decided to freeze the assets of the former President of Yemen according to the decision of the United Nations Security Council.

All assets of former Yemeni President Abdullah Saleh in banks and other financial institutions in Türkiye will be frozen, according to Turkish officials.

The incident took place in the context of UN investigators suspecting the former Yemeni President's assets to be up to 60 billion USD - higher than the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015.

According to investigators, Mr. Abdullah Saleh likely owned the above amount of money during his 22 years in power (from 1990 - 2012).

Meanwhile, the current situation in Yemen is extremely complicated. The warring parties in Yemen have agreed to implement a ceasefire decree, effective from April 11. At the same time, they agreed to negotiate a solution to the crisis a week later in Kuwait.

However, recently, the Yemeni government has repeatedly accused the rebel forces of violating the ceasefire decree and the peace talks have yet to take place due to the absence of rebel representatives.

Since September 2014, gunmen supporting former President Abdullah Saleh and Houthi rebels have fought against the legitimate Yemeni government and gained control of several major cities in the country, including the capital Sana'a./.
