"As part of the Pençe operation, on the morning of March 30, the Turkish Air Force struck the headquarters, shelters and bunkers of the PKK terrorist organization in northern Iraq, where terrorist leaders were preparing to attack the border unit of the Turkish army," the statement said.

Ankara reports that since July 2015, some 1,000 soldiers and police officers have been killed, along with some 500 civilian victims, due to attacks by Kurdish militants.

According to data from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, during this period, security forces neutralized more than 10,000 PKK members. There are PKK bases in northern Iraq, and this is the area where the Turkish armed forces conduct air and ground operations.
