Escape poverty by growing Malabar spinach
(Baonghean.vn) - People in Nam Nghia commune, Nam Dan district (Nghe An) have proactively brought Malabar spinach from their gardens to grow in the fields, creating an abundant source of goods. Many households have escaped poverty from growing Malabar spinach.

Previously, Ms. Dinh Thi Nhung's family in Hamlet 1, Nam Nghia Commune only used nearly one sao of home garden land to grow Malabar spinach. Seeing the high economic efficiency of growing Malabar spinach, in the past few years, implementing the commune's policy of converting crop structure, her family boldly converted more than one sao of rice land to grow Malabar spinach.
Many families followed suit, so from only 1-2 hectares at first, the whole commune now has more than 12 hectares specializing in Malabar spinach. In addition to converting mixed gardens to grow, many households have also proactively expanded the area to both fertile land and rice fields to grow, the smallest family plants one sao, many families plant 4-5 sao, most concentrated in hamlets 1, 2 and 3. Hamlet 1 alone has more than 80% of households growing Malabar spinach. Some households have even invested tens of millions of dong to improve the land, dig wells, and install electricity... to take better care of Malabar spinach.
From growing Malabar spinach, many families in Nam Nghia have escaped poverty and gradually become well-off and rich.
