Daily habits that cause infertility in young people but are rarely noticed

Many seemingly simple habits are actually the 'culprits', negatively affecting reproductive health, even causing infertility.

Vietnam is among the countries with the highest infertility rates in the world. In the past, many people thought that the problem of not having children was often due to the wife. However, modern medicine has proven that about 10% of couples of reproductive age are infertile, in which the infertility rate in both men and women is equal.

The latest statistics at the Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital show that infertility is caused by the wife about 40%, by the husband 40%, about 10% by both husband and wife and 10% no cause can be found.

For men, the main causes of infertility include: No sperm due to testicular failure, retrograde ejaculation, orchitis, history of mumps...

Staying up late regularly is also one of the causes affecting reproductive quality.

Notably, recent studies show that the quality of men's sperm is decreasing. In the early 2000s, the percentage of men treated for infertility related to semen abnormalities was 77.3%. By 2012, a study of more than 4,000 men at the Center for Genetics and Reproductive Health Research (CGRH), Ho Chi Minh City National University, showed that this rate had increased to 85.44%.

Decreased sperm quantity and quality in men, especially abnormalities in sperm shape, greatly affects the ability to fertilize.

For women, common causes of infertility are blocked fallopian tubes, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, old age, chemotherapy...

In addition to the above-mentioned causes of diseases and malformations, Dr. Le Thi Thu Hien, Head of the Department of Reproductive Support, Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital, added that in modern life, there are many bad habits that affect reproductive health.

"These habits are common among young people. They know they are harmful but continue because they are subjective," Dr. Hien shared.

Specifically, young people often use stimulants such as beer, alcohol, cigarettes; work in a stressful environment, often stay up late, eat foods high in chemicals and grease; use stimulants... affecting the ability to produce sperm, the ability to nourish sperm and affect the ovaries.

In addition, there have been studies on subjects working in the field of information technology showing that electronic waves can cause a decrease in spermatogenesis.

“There is still no research showing that placing phones or computers on your lap can cause infertility as the press often says, but it is clear that when we use them too much, it is not good for our lives, not to mention reproduction,” said Dr. Hien.

According to Dr. Hien, nowadays young people also have a more open sex life, many people have a preference for rough sex.

“Rough sex can cause damage to a woman’s genitals, such as tearing her underwear or using unusual positions that cause pain and discomfort… which can affect a woman’s psychology and affect ovulation and childbirth… and thus cause infertility.”

Dr. Hien recommends that to ensure reproductive health, young people should build a healthy life, not have promiscuous sex, not use stimulants to maintain health, need to balance the lifestyle between work and rest, and should avoid eating too much greasy food because it is not good for the body...

When women see abnormal signs such as irregular menstruation, congenital amenorrhea, vaginal discharge with unusual odor or color, over 18 years old but undeveloped breasts... or cases of pain during intercourse, pelvic pain can be signs of fibroids, pelvic inflammation, uterine problems... All these cases need to be examined early to prevent infertility and receive timely treatment.

Fertility is a concern for both sexes. If you want to have children, you need to eliminate the following habits.

Using laptop

According toThe Health Site, laptops are essential technological devices for everyone in modern society. However, scientists warn that frequent use, especially placing it on the lap while working, can affect sperm quality, easily causing infertility.

Exceed

This habit can make you obese - the leading cause of infertility in both men and women. Obesity can significantly reduce sperm count in men and cause miscarriage and menstrual cycle disorders in women.

Smoke

Smoking can affect your health and cause many dangerous diseases. According to a report by the British Medical Association, smokers have a 10-40% lower fertility than non-smokers.

Use soap and deodorant

Triclosan, an antibacterial and antifungal ingredient commonly used in soaps and deodorants, has been linked to infertility and sterility. Triclosan can disrupt hormones in the bodies of regular users.

Wearing underwear that is too tight

Wearing underwear that is too tight can cause estrogen levels to rise, which is not good for men's sperm. The scrotum is located at the bottom of the body and is designed to keep the temperature lower than the rest of the body. However, underwear that is too tight will increase the temperature, affecting sperm quality.

Consume soy foods

Soybeans are a protein-rich food, very good for health, but scientists have discovered that a diet rich in soy reduces sperm count. Therefore, to ensure healthy sperm, you should limit the consumption of foods derived from soy.

Low-fat dairy foods

These are good foods for fertility. But a study has shown that women who consume too much low-fat dairy foods have more problems with their ovaries and ovulation.

Using mobile phone

Mobile phones have become as attached to each person as clothes and daily food. Currently, researchers are still debating whether mobile phones can cause infertility. However, you should not keep them too close to the genital area because the radiation from the phone can affect sperm quality.

Eat too much sweets

Consuming too much sugar in candy and sweets will cause the body's insulin levels to rise, causing fatigue and exhaustion. To prevent this, the adrenal glands will release adrenaline and cortisol to help the body recover. However, this condition occurs frequently, causing a deviation in the connection between the adrenal glands and the endocrine system, which is not good for fertility.
