Tunnel through the mountain on the Da Nang-Quang Ngai highway

On the morning of September 9, the tunnel through Chiem Son mountain, Chiem Son village, Duy Trinh commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, part of package 4 of the Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway project, was opened after nearly seven months of construction and completed four months ahead of schedule.

To construct the Chiem Son tunnel, the participating units mobilized hundreds of highly skilled officers, engineers, and workers along with specialized equipment, organized continuous construction in three shifts per day, and applied appropriate technical solutions to handle complex geology during construction, shortening the implementation time. Up to now, most of the project items have exceeded the set schedule.

Chiem Son Tunnel has a total length of more than 1.2km. To construct the tunnel, the construction units dug more than 125,000m3 of earth and rock, anchored over 16,200 rock anchors of various types, sprayed nearly 43,000m3 of concrete, over 13,500m2 of steel mesh and 522 tons of steel support frames to support the tunnel ceiling.

Currently, the construction units are carrying out the work of digging and lowering the tunnel foundation along a length of 1.2km and by November will start pouring concrete for the tunnel lining, striving to complete the tunnel through Chiem Son mountain by June 2016./.
