Confiscated children's book set printed with "cow tongue line"
A set of Chinese books for children has just been discovered to contain a map of China with a nine-dash "cow tongue line" image, seriously violating Vietnam's sovereignty over its sea and islands.
On March 12, during an inspection at Nhan Van Bookstore located at 875 Cach Mang Thang 8, Ward 15, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Culture and Information of District 10 discovered a set of Chinese books for children printed with a map of China with a 9-dash "cow tongue line" image, seriously violating Vietnam's sovereignty over its sea and islands.
The incorrect content is in lesson 14, page 35, volume 1 (the book series has 3 volumes).
During the inspection, Nhan Van Bookstore provided a number of documents, including volume 1 of the book series reprinted under Decision No. 1049 of Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House signed on July 25, 2011. Publishing plan registration number: 646-11/CXB/65-58/THTPHCM. The number of printed copies is 2,000, the publishing partner is Smart World Education and Technology Joint Stock Company.
Nhan Van Bookstore also provides a copyright authorization contract for the works "Chinese for Children 1," "Chinese for Children 2," and "Chinese for Children 3."
The authorized party is Asia Media Limited Liability Company (Party A, address: 592/26 Lac Long Quan, Ward 5, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City), the authorized party is Nhan Van Cultural Joint Stock Company (Party B, address: No. 1 Truong Chinh, Ward 11, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City).
The contract content states: "Party A agrees to authorize Party B to exclusively release, publish and distribute the above works in Vietnam."
Mr. Pham Tan Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Information of District 10, said that the inspection team coordinated with the Police of Ward 15 to draw up a record of administrative violations and seal 132 books as evidence of the incident.
The Department of Culture and Information of District 10 will report this incident to the District People's Committee and the City People's Committee for specific handling.
