At about 9:00 p.m. on April 13, upon receiving information from the masses at the carpentry village of Thai Yen commune, Duc Tho district, a large quantity of precious wood was transported on a container truck with license plate 12C-03.611 pulling a trailer with license plate 12R-00377, and was being lowered to the assembly area.
At the scene, the Environmental Police discovered about 170 logs of red wood belonging to group 2, with a volume of about 4m3, hidden by the driver at the bottom of the container truck, camouflaged with dozens of tons of dried cassava chips on top. However, when checking, the driver did not have any documents proving the origin of this wood.
Driver Pham Van Thanh (born in 1987, residing in Ninh Binh province) confessed that Quang Minh Limited Liability Company, headquartered in Lang Son province, hired him to drive to Laos to transport dried cassava chips to Vietnam.
After loading cassava in Nam Than province (Laos), the driver was hired by a man named Phung residing in Quang Binh province to go to Tha Khec province (Laos) to deliver the above wood to Thai Yen commune, Duc Tho district for 5.5 million VND.
Ha Tinh province authorities continue to investigate and clarify.
