Recall of TARO taro jelly product

At noon on June 1, Inspection Team No. 1 of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety and Hygiene completed the surprise inspection.at New Choice Foods Company in Binh Duong.

The delegation confirmed and sealed 100 kg of opaque food additives imported by New Choice Foods from Triko Foods Co.LTD (Taiwan) and stored in a rented private warehouse at Vietnam-Singapore Park II Industrial Park, Binh Duong, awaiting processing.


New Choice Foods' TARO longan taro flavored jelly product containing DEHP additive is being recalled.

It is known that New Choice Foods Company only imports additives for production and does not sell these additives to any other additive manufacturers or agents.

As of 11:00 a.m. on June 1, the company had recalled 3,582 cartons of TARO brand taro-flavored jelly products that used the above-mentioned additive.

According to the company's report, there are currently 3,688 boxes of TARO brand taro flavored jelly on the market. The company has notified its distribution system of 75 agents and 307 supermarkets nationwide to stop trading and quickly recall all taro flavored jelly products produced by New Choice foods Company and must recall all by June 6, 2011.

The Food Safety Department requests the Health Department Inspectorate and the Food Safety Sub-Department of Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City to supervise the recall and handling of the above products in accordance with the prescribed procedures. At the same time, New Choice Foods is required to report to the management agency and widely publicize the recall and handling on mass media and to consumers.

The Food Safety Department requires agents and supermarkets in the distribution system of New Choice Foods Company to strictly comply with the product recall order. After June 6, interdisciplinary inspection teams will inspect the company's compliance. If any products that have been announced to be recalled are found, they will be strictly handled according to the provisions of the law.

The Food Safety Department advises consumers not to panic or worry. This is an unexpected incident and has only been detected in the TARO brand of taro-flavored jelly products of New Choice Foods.

The Department will continue to contact information with Taiwanese authorities and the INFOSAN global network, and direct inspection, supervision and timely notification to protect the health of Vietnamese consumers.
