After deciding that Vietnam and Singapore would be the two co-hosts of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup group stage in the afternoon AFF council meeting, the gala to present the best awards of 2012 was held by AFF in the evening.
Among the 17 titles voted and awarded by AFF, Vietnam was honored to receive two awards.
Specifically, after winning the 2012 Southeast Asian Championship at Thong Nhat Stadium last September, the Vietnamese women’s team was voted “The Best Team of Southeast Asia 2012”. In addition, the excellent performance of goalkeeper Kieu Trinh at the tournament, especially in the final match against Myanmar, helped this 28-year-old girl receive the title “The Best Female Player of Southeast Asia 2012”.
In addition, central defender Nguyen Minh Duc of the Vietnamese team was also voted into the 2012 Southeast Asia's best 11 players, but in the role of right back.
Despite losing 2-3 to Singapore in the final of the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, Thailand is the team with the most players in this squad with 5 players. Singapore has two players in the 2012 Southeast Asian best 11 players, in which striker Shahril Ishak was honored to receive the title of "Best Southeast Asian Player 2012".
