Veteran Brazilian goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has just set a new world football record when he reached 100 goals in his career.

In the match between Sao Paulo and Corinthians in the Sao Paulo state league yesterday, the 38-year-old goalkeeper had a beautiful free kick, completing the number of goals he has scored to 100.

This goal not only helped Rogerio Ceni set a record in the history of world football but also helped his home team Sao Paulo win an important 2-1 victory over their great rival. This was Sao Paulo's first victory over Corinthians since February 2007, after 11 matches of only draws and losses.

In fact, FIFA only counted Ceni's 98 goals, but the goalkeeper also counted the two goals he scored in friendly matches, one against the Santos-Flamengo alliance in 1998, and one against the Russian team Uralan Elista in 2000.

Of Ceni's 100 goals, 43 were from the penalty spot, 53 were from free kicks, and the remaining four were from attacking situations. The season in which this veteran goalkeeper scored the most goals was 2005 with 21 goals.

After achieving a feat that no other goalkeeper can equal, Rogerio Ceni happily said: "I feel extremely happy to have done this. As a goalkeeper, you never go into a match thinking that you need to score, but that (the 100th goal) came exactly as I wished. A free kick in an important match against Corinthians"

Ceni is 38 years old this year, and was the third goalkeeper of the Brazilian team that won the world championship in 2002.
