The income of coastal people in Nghe An is 1.28 times higher than the average of the whole province.

On the morning of May 22, the Provincial People's Committee held a regular meeting in May to assess the socio-economic situation in the area and discuss solutions to implement tasks in the coming time. Immediately after the Central Committee issued Resolution 4 of the 10th Party Congress, Nghe An province issued Resolution No. 16-NQ/TU setting out specific goals for the Marine Strategy of Nghe An province by 2020: Striving for the sea and coastal areas to have an economic growth rate of about 15%; GDP 1.5 times higher than the whole province; population growth rate of 0.96%; annual employment for 15,000 people; forming a number of key products with high and stable export value; processing 15,000 tons of seafood for export by 2020.

After 10 years, the marine and coastal economy has developed quite comprehensively with a full range of industries, including many industries that are driving forces for the development of Nghe An such as marine tourism, fishing and seafood processing, port services; making great contributions to the GDP and budget of the whole province.
The industry in coastal and offshore districts is quite developed, mainly focusing on seafood exploitation and processing industries; shipbuilding and repair industries; seaport and maritime services.
The average growth rate of service industry production value in the period 2006-2016 was 6.77%; Revenue from coastal tourism in 2016 reached 3,630 billion VND, accounting for 90% of the province, increasing by an average of 15.49% annually. At the same time, the system of seaports and fishing ports was planned and attracted investment, contributing to promoting maritime logistics services and import and export.
Average GDP in the period 2006-2016 increased by 8.29%, higher than the average of the whole province. The average income per capita of people in coastal areas of Nghe An in 2006 was only 9.27 million VND/person, increased to 36.21 million VND (in 2016), equal to 1.28 times the average of the whole province.

In the orientation of economic and social development of 6 coastal districts of the province until 2020 and the following years, the following areas are focused: Sea and island tourism and coastal areas; Development of clean industry in the Southeast Economic Zone and Hoang Mai and Nam Cam industrial zones with Vinh City and Cua Lo town; Aquaculture, exploitation, seafood processing and sea salt production; development of maritime transport; Cua Lo Port Services and other ports; Training and human resource development services for the marine and coastal economy and other services.
In that process, focus on developing Vinh - Cua Lo area, Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone and Hoang Mai - Dong Hoi area associated with Nam Thanh - Bac Nghe economic zone, creating a dynamic development area. Invest in completing the infrastructure system and create favorable mechanisms to attract investment to develop industrial parks according to the plan.

Strongly develop clean industries associated with the marine economy such as electronics industry, seafood processing industry, shipbuilding and repair mechanical industry, port industry, port services and warehouses serving the marine economy. Priority is given to high technology, ensuring ecological environment, and exploiting marine tourism well.
