Spam increases sharply due to increased malware infections

From June 2011 to October 2011, the amount of spam in Vietnam doubled and this is the result of an increase in IT systems infected with malware - Mr. Vu Quoc Khanh, Director of the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Center (VNCERT) warned.

According to Mr. Khanh, currently, email systems have been equipped with many features to support security such as not allowing sending exe files; checking for viruses on attached files; preventing sending fake emails. However, in reality, there are still many loopholes that allow hackers to send fake emails (the trick of sending fake emails containing viruses to mail servers is still making it difficult for users to distinguish between real and fake). And hackers are still continuing many sophisticated tricks to send malware via email.

Further analyzing the loopholes that are "opening the door" for spam to run rampant, Mr. Khanh said: the lack of carefully protected dedicated administrative computers is one of the fundamental causes of many loopholes in the IT system. If agencies and units do not design the network well, do not divide the management area reasonably, it is very easy for viruses to spread widely or malicious code to attack en masse, causing the entire IT system to stall, at which point it is difficult to determine the exact location of the malicious code.

Mr. Khanh also paid special attention to the current situation of software being produced specifically to steal information from certain subjects. This malicious software can bypass many popular anti-virus software to steal information from infected computers and send it to other servers. This software is made in many different forms, and in some cases is made in the form of BAT files so it is not detected by anti-virus software.
