(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, people in Anh Son district have planted off-season cucumbers, bringing in high income in winter crop production.

Ms. Tran Thi Phuong in village 7, Tuong Son commune said: This winter crop, her family grew nearly 3 sao of melons, the weather was relatively favorable so the plants grew well; the harvest time was short. It is estimated that each sao of melons will yield 1-1.2 tons with an average price of 5,000 - 6,000 VND/kg. Each sao of melons brings in 5 to 6 million VND. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien said: On an area of 2 sao, each year her family grows two melon crops and one rice crop. Off-season melons are sown from September to October and harvested from November to the end of December. Main-season melons are sown from December and harvested the following year. Off-season melons are often many times more effective than growing winter corn on rice land, each hectare can bring in an income of 100-120 million VND. |
This year, the entire Tuong Son commune has up to 50 households growing melons with an area of up to 3 hectares concentrated in village 7 and village 8. |
The melon variety grown by the people is a local grass melon variety. The fruit is not as big as the high-yield melon variety, but it is crispy, sweet and fragrant. |
The melons are clean so people can pick and eat them right in the field. |
Melons are purchased by traders right at home. |
