Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development inspects flood aftermath in Hoang Mai
(Baonghean.vn) - In the face of the devastating floods in Hoang Mai town, on the afternoon of October 2, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang directly inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of floods. Accompanying him were comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and leaders of Hoang Mai town.

The report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Bac Irrigation One Member Limited Liability Company shows that: From September 29 to the night of October 1, in Hoang Mai town, there was heavy rain, to very heavy rain, with rainfall measured from 350 to 600mm. Particularly in Vuc Mau lake, the rainfall was over 450mm, exceeding the dam safety level, forcing the lake management board to release floodwaters from all 5 spillways. During the flood discharge process, Vuc Mau lake management board followed the correct procedures and notified the wards and communes in the affected area. However, heavy rain, along with the overflow of Vuc Mau lake and high tides, caused 10 wards and communes of Hoang Mai town to be submerged in water.

The town leaders affirmed that they have implemented many synchronous solutions to prevent floods. Especially after receiving the notice of flood discharge from Vuc Mau lake, the town thoroughly informed the communes and people in the affected areas. Before the flood, the town had evacuated 490 households, by noon on October 1, the whole town had evacuated over 620 households in vulnerable areas. However, because it was the biggest flood in more than 40 years, it caused many surprises for the people in Hoang Mai.
The floods killed 2 people, injured 3 people, completely submerged 380 hectares of unharvested rice; nearly 400 hectares of shrimp and fish ponds were flooded; 350 hectares of crops were damaged, and 200 cars were damaged. Comrade Dinh Viet Hong reported to the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the efforts of the province and its forces as well as the people in flood prevention. The provincial leaders closely followed the area, mobilizing hundreds of officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people to evacuate people and property. Rescue work and relief work for the affected people were carried out promptly. Up to now, 30 tons of instant noodles, over 400 tanks of clean water and a lot of food have been delivered to the people affected by the floods. The province has directed departments and towns to continue to pay attention to post-flood environmental treatment, helping people overcome the consequences and stabilize their lives.

Deputy Minister Hoang Van Thang requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Bac Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd. to thoroughly inspect and learn from the flood discharge process, and closely coordinate with local authorities to promptly notify people to avoid floods and minimize damage to people and property. The process of notifying the effects of flood discharge needs to be detailed when opening each spillway gate of the dam.
