Polish Prime Minister takes over as President of the European Council
Leaders of European Union (EU) member states have chosen Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk as the new President of the European Council (EC) and Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini as the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the union.

The above information was announced by the current President of the EC, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy, on Twitter after the special EC summit on August 30 in Brussels, Belgium.

Donald Tusk, born 22 April 1957, has been the Prime Minister of Poland since 2007 and is the longest-serving Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland to date. He began his career as a political activist in his native town of Gdańsk.
Meanwhile, Ms. Federica Mogherini, born on June 16, 1973, is a political scientist. She became Italian Foreign Minister in February this year./.
