Canadian Prime Minister impressed with Vovinam
Enjoying the beautiful moves of Vovinam at the reception of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the International Convention Center (Hanoi) during his visit to Vietnam, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented that Vovinam is a discipline that combines the quintessence of martial arts and culture of the Vietnamese people.

At the reception, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was introduced to the history of Vovinam as well as enjoyed special performances of this Vietnamese martial art such as female self-defense, multi-weapon training, foot attacks, etc. In addition, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also presented with a martial arts uniform and an honorary red belt with his name embroidered on it by President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation Mai Huu Tin.
Enjoying the graceful yet powerful martial arts moves, especially the neck-gripping kicks, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau couldn't stop praising with delight. With the female self-defense performance of athletes Mai Thi Kim Thuy and Nguyen Van Cuong, Mr. Justin Trudeau was fascinated by the effective and beautiful counterattacks that this duo showed. At the end of the performance, Mr. Justin Trudeau shook hands to encourage the athletes when they showed him the quintessence of Vietnamese martial arts.

Not only is he a successful politician, Justin Trudeau is also passionate about sports, especially boxing. Before becoming Prime Minister of Canada, Trudeau regularly practiced boxing, which is why he has a muscular, toned body like a professional boxer. He once fought Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau in Ottawa in March 2012, in a boxing match to raise money for a charity fund.

With his knowledge of martial arts, Mr. Justin Trudeau highly appreciated Vovinam - a martial art founded in 1938. According to him, this is a practical but beautiful martial art with fast and flexible speed, especially extremely powerful neck-gripping kicks. After the performance, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also gave many compliments to the Vietnamese athletes for their excellent performances in promoting and introducing the quintessence of Vietnamese culture to international leaders.
Vovinam thrives in Canada Vovinam has grown strongly over the years, with a presence in nearly 70 countries and territories with more than 2 million practitioners. Since the establishment of the World Vovinam Federation, this martial art has grown even stronger as continental and regional federations have been established. In Canada, in February 2001, the Canadian Vovinam Federation was established in Vancouver City, including 4 centers: Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto. Previously, since the 1990s, Vovinam training centers were established in Canada, attracting thousands of students to practice. In North America, there are more than 60 Vovinam training centers. Currently, Vovinam here is developing quite well and is in the process of integrating with the world Vovinam movement. |
