Prime Minister shares situation on East Sea with UN Deputy Secretary General
On the afternoon of June 10, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Mr. Hervé Ladsous, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations in charge of peacekeeping operations, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
Welcoming Mr. Hervé Ladsous's visit, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated the role of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, contributing to resolving conflicts and disputes through peaceful means, especially in the context of the current extremely complicated regional and international security situation, with many threats to peace and stability in the region and the world, including the situation in the East Sea - where there are activities and behaviors that seriously threaten peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation of the world's busiest and most vital shipping route.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that as a nation that has suffered much pain and loss in wars of aggression, Vietnam always longs for peace and wishes to contribute to lasting peace in the world.
Besides, as a member of the United Nations, Vietnam clearly recognizes its responsibility and seriously fulfills its responsibility to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping force.
The Prime Minister hopes that the United Nations will continue to support and assist Vietnam to participate more effectively in UN peacekeeping activities.
Accordingly, in addition to the officers already assigned, Vietnam is ready to send more officers to join United Nations missions around the world.
At the reception, Deputy Secretary-General Hervé Ladsous said that the United Nations highly appreciates Vietnam's participation in UN peacekeeping activities by sending its officers to join the UN Missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
The United Nations hopes to continue to receive more Vietnamese officers to join other Missions and hopes that Vietnam will continue to support United Nations peacekeeping missions.
In that spirit, Mr. Hervé Ladsous highly appreciated Vietnam's proposal to deploy a level 2 field hospital by the end of 2015, an engineering company by the end of 2016 to the Missions suitable to Vietnam's conditions and capabilities; sign agreements with the United Nations on deploying military medical and engineering units to specific missions; and receive elite officers of the Vietnamese army to work at peacekeeping agencies at the United Nations Headquarters.
Mr. Hervé Ladsous also said that as a diplomat who has worked for many years in the region, he shares and fully understands the complexity and seriousness of the situation in the East Sea; at the same time, he shares the approach to resolving the issue by peaceful means, in accordance with international law./.
