Prime Minister issues National Action Plan on Climate Change
The Prime Minister has just signed a Decision on promulgating the National Action Plan on Climate Change for the 2012-2020 period.
The plan identifies goals and tasks from now until 2020, including: Strengthening climate monitoring capacity and early warning of natural disasters; Ensuring food security and water security; Proactively responding to natural disasters; Preventing flooding in major cities; Strengthening river and sea dykes and reservoir safety; Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing the economy towards low carbon.

In addition, strengthen management capacity, perfect policy mechanisms on climate change; Mobilize the participation of economic sectors, scientific, political-social-professional organizations and non-governmental organizations in responding to climate change; pilot community models of climate change adaptation; Raise awareness, develop human resources; Develop science and technology as a basis for policy making, impact assessment, identification of solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation; Cooperate internationally, enhance Vietnam's position and role in international activities on climate change; Mobilize resources and finance to respond to climate change.
During the 2012-2015 period, the National Action Plan on Climate Change will prioritize 10 key programs and projects on the following issues: climate change, forecasting technology and hydrometeorological monitoring network; management of greenhouse gas emission reduction activities; flood prevention projects in some major cities; sea dike system renovation; community models for responding to climate change./.
