Prime Minister attends World Economic Forum on East Asia

Today (June 6), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung led a Vietnamese delegation to the capital Naypyidaw, Myanmar to attend the 2013 WEF East Asia Conference at the invitation of Myanmar President Thein Sein and WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab.

The delegation included Minister - Head of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Nguyen Manh Tien, Assistant to the Prime Minister Bui Quoc Bao, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Phan Thanh Dung...

WEF Conference on East Asia 2013 (taking place from June 5-7) with the theme "Strong transformation towards integration and comprehensive development".

It is expected that at this WEF East Asia, delegates will focus on discussing three main contents: promoting comprehensive transformation of Myanmar; identifying regional integration; the scale of regional solutions and responding to global challenges.

Since 1989, WEF has regularly invited Vietnam to attend the Annual Conferences in Davos (in Switzerland) and the WEF Conferences on East Asia.

In particular, appreciating Vietnam's spectacular economic achievements, in 2007 the WEF President invited Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to attend the Conference.

In the following WEF conferences, Vietnam has attended at a high level. The participation of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders has made a strong impression on WEF members.

In 2010, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam hosted the 19th WEF Conference on East Asia, with the theme "Asia's rising role in global development".

Most recently, at WEF 2012 with the theme "Shaping the future of the region through connectivity" held in Thailand (May 2012), the Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made important contributions.

Speaking at the opening session, in addition to affirming that regional cooperation and connectivity is currently one of the main trends in East Asia with the active role of countries in the region, especially ASEAN member states, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted Vietnam's policy of proactive and active international integration, with one of the priorities being to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation with neighboring countries, identify high responsibility in building the ASEAN Community, and improve the effectiveness of participation in East Asia's regional cooperation frameworks and mechanisms.

The Vietnamese delegation attending the WEF East Asia Conference this time aims to continue implementing the policy of proactive and active international integration, while promoting the image and enhancing the role and position of Vietnam in the region through sharing Vietnam's experience in socio-economic development, macroeconomic stability, economic restructuring, attracting foreign investment as well as promoting the Vietnam - WEF cooperation relationship.

Vietnam has 13 large corporations and groups that are members of WEF, including: Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, FPT Group, VinGroup; VinaCapital; Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group; Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation; Vietnam Airlines Corporation; Steel Corporation; Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam; Bao Viet Group; Construction Joint Stock Corporation No. 1; Saigon Investment Group; and Agricultural Bank.
