According to Ria Novosti, at the German Social Democratic Party Congress, Chancellor Olaf Scholz blamed Russia for stopping gas supplies to Europe. "This has implications for energy prices!" - said Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

According to Mr. Scholz, Germany has lost half of the gas it receives, and Europe is short of 120 billion cubic meters of hydrocarbons. To improve the situation, the German government has started buying more gas from Norway and built liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in the north of the country.

Gas supplies to Germany have become more difficult following attacks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines last year, RIA Novosti reported.

In November, the head of the Russian Energy Ministry Nikolai Shulginov said that Russia is not “closing” its energy supplies to the West, and remains a reliable gas supplier even in the current circumstances.

Commenting on the German Chancellor's remarks, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called allegations that gas supplies to Europe were stopped because of Russia "lies".

"The German leader is lying without shame! They themselves refused to buy gas because they wanted to punish Russia. And now they are evading and lying!" - Mr. Medvedev wrote on the social network X.
