Merkel's spokesman confirmed that she will still go to Japan for the G20 summit despite concerns about her health.

As German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke at a government event at Bellevue Palace in Berlin this morning, Chancellor Angela Merkel stood with her arms crossed next to her and began to tremble.

Someone offered her a glass of water, but she shook her head and refused. The 64-year-old Chancellor then looked better and started walking again. She was attending an event marking the resignation of Justice Minister Katarina Barley to become a member of parliament, and the swearing-in of her new Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht.

Asked if the prime minister would be able to travel to Japan for the G20 summit, her spokesman said the trip was still going ahead as planned and Mrs Merkel was fine.

During the welcoming ceremony for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the chancellery on June 18, Ms. Merkel also trembled and swayed slightly, causing many people to worry about her health. Responding at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian President afterward, the female Prime Minister explained that she was dehydrated and stabilized after drinking three glasses of water.

Merkel has previously shown similar symptoms and has suffered at least one heat-related health problem. Germany is experiencing a heatwave with temperatures hitting a record 38.6 degrees Celsius.
