Vietnam is one of two countries in East Asia attracting the most investment from Singapore with over 1,000 projects and a total investment capital of 43 billion Singapore dollars.

Two-way trade turnover has also increased steadily every year and reached over 15.8 billion Singapore dollars in 2012.

Singaporean Minister of Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck emphasized: The success of the Vietnam-Singapore industrial park model is one of the dynamic expressions of bilateral cooperation.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung outlined the main features of Vietnam's economic situation, especially the stable macro-economy, well-controlled inflation at a low level, stable exchange rate, strong increase in foreign exchange reserves with more than 12 weeks of imports, GDP growth maintained at a reasonable level and exports reaching nearly 40 billion USD in the first 4 months of this year.

The Prime Minister emphasized: The Vietnam-Singapore relationship is developing well. The agreement connecting the two economies of Vietnam and Singapore can be said to be the only relationship between Vietnam and a foreign partner. The potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two economies is still very large and both sides can do more, better and more effectively.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed: "Vietnam consistently advocates continuing to develop a market economy, deeply integrating with the world economy, and always considering foreign trade investment as one of the driving forces to promote the economy. Vietnam always considers the success of foreign investment as its own success. I welcome support to create favorable conditions for Singaporean investors to both expand and make new investments in Vietnam."

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also affirmed: Vietnam advocates continuing to reform the investment environment more strongly, focusing on effectively implementing three breakthroughs:

One is to continue to fully perfect market institutions in accordance with international practices, including strongly promoting negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement with Singapore and partners.

Second, focus on mobilizing domestic and foreign resources to invest in completing social infrastructure to reduce investment costs for foreign investors coming to Vietnam.

Third is to focus on creating human resources to meet the industrialization and modernization process, especially highly qualified human resources.

The Prime Minister said: The President and Prime Minister of Singapore both agreed to elevate the Vietnam-Singapore relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in all fields.

The two sides have basically completed the content and are trying to sign the agreement during Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's upcoming visit to Vietnam. This is an opportunity and condition for the two sides to strongly promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries to become more practical and effective.

The presence and lively, profound and frank speech of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the opening of the 12th Shangri-La Dialogue last night left a deep impression on governments, military officials and scholars on defense and security in the Asia-Pacific region in particular and the international community in general.

The Prime Minister sent a message to the international community, which is the necessity and sustainability of strengthening the building and consolidation of strategic trust for peace, cooperation and prosperous development in the Asia-Pacific region, and the most important thing about strategic trust is sincerity and honesty in relations between countries, in cooperation, and in handling common challenges in the region./.
