Prime Minister assigns Ministry of Health to inspect and license 1 more Covid-19 vaccine

On August 20, the Government Office issued a document conveying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's opinion on assigning the Ministry of Health to inspect the quality, grant licenses, and organize free vaccinations of an additional vaccine that is about to be imported into Vietnam.

The notice sent to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Government Office received a request (dated August 17) from Vimedimex Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company requesting the Prime Minister to consider, approve and direct the Ministry of Health to quickly appraise the emergency registration dossier for the Covid-19 vaccine Hayat-Vax for urgent needs in disease prevention and control.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health to inspect, guide and consistently implement State management, including quality control, licensing, preservation and organization of free vaccinations according to regulations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviews, inspects, and promotes diplomatic activities to import vaccines.

It is known that the Hayat-Vax vaccine is produced in the UAE. A press release from the UAE Ministry of Health said that 99% of people vaccinated with Hayat-Vax developed antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the product also helped prevent moderate and severe cases in vaccinated people.

In Vietnam, there are currently 6 vaccines that have been granted emergency licenses by the Ministry of Health, including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson (Janssen vaccine), Sinopharm and Sputnik V. If granted emergency licenses, this will be the 7th vaccine.

By the end of August 20, 16,306,199 doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been administered nationwide, of which 14,669,827 doses were administered as the first dose and 1,636,372 doses as the second dose./.
