Prime Minister meets with the King and leaders of the Japanese Parliament

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated Japan's contributions to cooperation and development in the region.

Within the framework of attending the 7th Mekong - Japan Summit, on July 3 in Tokyo, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, along with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Lao Prime Minister Thoongsing Thammavong, Myanmar President Thein Sein, and Thai Prime Minister Prayhuth Cha-ocha, paid a courtesy visit to Japanese King Akihito, Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima, and President of the Senate Masaaki Yamazaki.

At the reception, the Japanese Emperor welcomed the leaders attending the 7th Mekong-Japan Summit; affirmed his support for further strengthening cooperation between Japan and other countries, for the common development of each country, for peace and stability in the region and the world.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his delight at the important achievements in economic development and reconstruction of the earthquake and tsunami-affected areas of Japan and its people; considered the growth of the Japanese economy to be of great significance to the development and prosperity of Asia, and highly appreciated Japan's contributions to cooperation and development in the region. On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung invited the King and Queen to visit Vietnam soon. King Akihito thanked them for the invitation.

*** The Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives highly appreciated the development potential of the Mekong countries as well as the relationship with Japan; he said that in the Japanese Parliament there is a Friendship Parliamentarians' Alliance with each Mekong country and the Japan-Mekong Friendship Parliamentarians' Alliance was just established last April to strengthen the relationship between Japan and the Mekong countries, especially the exchange between the countries' parliaments.

He expressed his sincere gratitude for the Mekong countries’ support and assistance to Japan, which suffered heavy damage from the earthquake and tsunami four years ago; and wished to continue sharing Japan’s experience and knowledge in disaster prevention, an important topic within the framework of the Mekong-Japan Summit.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated the achievements of Mekong-Japan cooperation in recent times, which have actively contributed to the development of socio-economic infrastructure, improved the business environment and narrowed the development gap in the region.

The Prime Minister thanked House of Representatives Speaker Tadamori Oshima for his sentiments and support in promoting the substantial and profound development of Vietnam-Japan cooperation in recent times.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister congratulated Mr. Tadamori Oshima on his election as Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives and conveyed the invitation from National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to Mr. Tadamori Oshima to visit Vietnam soon.

The Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives expressed his delight at the substantive and comprehensive development of the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership, affirming that he will support and make every effort to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the Mekong region and Japan in general, and the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan in particular.

*** Senate President Masaaki Yamazaki affirmed that Japan has good relations with the Mekong countries and that the development of this region is not only essential for peace and stability in Asia, but also very important for the ASEAN Community to be formed at the end of 2015.

The President of the House of Councilors of Japan expressed his belief that the 7th Mekong-Japan Summit will contribute to deepening the friendship between the countries and make an important contribution to the strong development of the region; affirming that the Japanese National Assembly will continue to promote exchanges between parliaments and parliamentarians, especially with ASEAN countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung thanked and appreciated Japan's valuable cooperation and support in recent times, especially in the fields of infrastructure development, energy, human resource training, environment as well as the personal contributions and sentiments of Japanese Senate President Masaaki Yamazaki towards further strengthening the Vietnam-Japan cooperative relationship.

Senate President Masaaki Yamazaki expressed his delight at welcoming Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Japan and attend the 7th Mekong Summit; highly appreciated the development of Vietnam's economy in recent years, affirmed the importance of further strengthening the extensive and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, and supported Japan's continued cooperation and support for Vietnam in economic and social development.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung conveyed the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to Senate Chairman Masaaki Yamazaki to visit Vietnam. The Japanese Senate Chairman thanked him and will arrange to visit Vietnam soon./.
