Prime Minister meets with Governor-General of Australia, visits New South Wales state

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of valuing and wishing to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership with Australia, and welcomed Australia's continued strengthening of relations with countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including Vietnam.

On March 17, in Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, the first leg of an official visit to Australia at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, met with Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and New South Wales Governor David Hurley.

At the meeting with Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his joy at visiting Australia again and witnessing with his own eyes Australia's achievements in building a prosperous and developed country.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam's consistent policy is to value and wish to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership with Australia, and welcomes Australia to continue strengthening relations with countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including Vietnam.

The two leaders agreed that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries are developing well in all areas, especially since the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2009.

Relations between the two countries in the fields of politics, economics, trade, culture and education are all progressing effectively.

The Governor-General of Australia highly appreciated the good prospects of the Vietnam-Australia relationship. He said that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's official visit to Australia this time took place at the right time, and he believed that the results of the visit would contribute to creating new momentum to develop the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries more strongly in the coming time.

According to him, the strong developments, especially in economics and trade, and the similarities in security and political issues in the region show that the Vietnam-Australia relationship has deepened, is increasingly stable, sustainable and trustworthy.

Mr. Peter Cosgrove added that he was a Vietnam veteran and had traveled to Vietnam twice. He was personally deeply impressed by the achievements, positive changes of Vietnam, and the hospitality of the Vietnamese people.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung conveyed to the Governor-General of Australia an invitation from President Truong Tan Sang to pay an official visit to Vietnam. Mr. Peter Cosgrove thanked President Truong Tan Sang and happily accepted the invitation.

During a meeting with New South Wales Governor David Hurley, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his delight at witnessing the dynamism, modernity and prosperity of Sydney. The Prime Minister congratulated the Governor on the achievements that New South Wales has made in recent years.

The Prime Minister said that New South Wales has many advantages in trade and many opportunities to cooperate with localities in Vietnam, especially since the two sides have direct flights between Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City.

In order to fully exploit these advantages, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung proposed that the New South Wales government create favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to cooperate, support Vietnamese businesses to explore investment opportunities, and support Vietnamese goods to penetrate the New South Wales market in particular and Australia in general.

The Governor of New South Wales expressed his delight at welcoming Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the visit; considering this a milestone opening a new period of strong and effective cooperation between New South Wales and Vietnam.

Mr. David Hurley also affirmed that he always encourages and creates favorable conditions for businesses from New South Wales and Vietnam to cooperate in business for the benefit of both sides.
