Iraqi Prime Minister issues order to mobilize reservists

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on June 19 ordered security personnel to re-enlist in order to reinforce forces fighting against an offensive by Islamist militants who have seized large swaths of territory.

“Military personnel from the rank of brigadier general and below have been transferred to units according to their functions and ranks,” Mr Maliki said in a statement read on state television.

The order applies to an unspecified number of personnel who remain official members of the security forces but are not currently assigned to active duty units./.
