Israel will not allow "a hostile Iranian military presence on its northern border," Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said during a cabinet meeting.

The head of government assessed Tehran's increased military presence in Syria as an act against Israel.

"We are determined to stop Iranian aggression against us, even if it means conflict. Better now than later," Netanyahu said.

He added that Israel did not seek to aggravate the situation, but was "ready for any scenario".

Amid Iran's "intensified efforts to establish a military presence in Syria," the upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is of particular importance, Netanyahu said.
