Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrives in Italy to attend ASEM 10 conference

On the night of October 15 (local time), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese delegation arrived in Milan, Italy, to begin activities to attend the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit (ASEM 10).

After successfully concluding his official visit to Germany, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese delegation left Berlin and headed to Milan, Italy.

Welcoming Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the airport were representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long and all officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy.

With the theme “Responsible Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Security”, ASEM 10 will focus on discussing four main topics: Economic-financial issues and Asia-Europe connectivity; global issues; international and regional issues of common concern; ASEM future orientation. In addition, before the ASEM 10 Conference, an informal ASEAN-EU summit will take place.

Over 18 years of participating in ASEM, Vietnam has always been an active, dynamic and responsible member, promoting its role and position at the Forum, most notably the successful organization of the 5th ASEM Summit (2004) and 5 Ministerial Conferences in the fields of economics, information technology, diplomacy, education and labor.

To continue to enhance the relationship between Vietnam and the EU and other important partners in ASEM as well as contribute to common interests, in 2014, Vietnam will continue to have proposals and initiatives focusing mainly on areas such as: implementing the "Millennium Goals" (poverty eradication), vocational training and human resource development, water resource management, natural disaster response, promoting specific Mekong-Danube cooperation.

From November 18-20, Vietnam will host the 14th Informal ASEM Conference on Human Rights with the theme “Business and Human Rights” in Hanoi. This will be the largest event that Vietnam will host this year as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, contributing to enhancing dialogue and understanding between the two continents.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the 10th ASEM Summit to continue to proactively contribute to the important contents of the Summit, enhance Vietnam's position; coordinate in development and security issues; and strengthen bilateral cooperation with member countries to elevate the partnership.
