Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's working visit to Cambodia (from January 12-14) aimed to demonstrate the importance placed on the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia, and to further promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas such as economics, trade, and investment.
The traditional friendly neighborly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have continued to develop positively in recent times. The two sides regularly exchange delegations at all levels.
Economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries continues to develop rapidly. Two-way trade turnover in 2012 reached US$3.3 billion (an 18% increase compared to US$2.829 billion in 2011); it is projected to reach approximately US$3.5 billion in 2013.
As of June 2013, Vietnam had invested in Cambodia nearly 130 projects with a total capital of over 3 billion USD, focusing on several key sectors such as industrial crop cultivation, mining, power generation, telecommunications, finance, and banking.
Security and defense cooperation has been strengthened; the two sides cooperate closely in the search, excavation, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia.
In addition, the demarcation and placement of border markers continues to be jointly implemented by both sides. Both sides affirmed their continued cooperation to complete this work soon, contributing to building a peaceful, friendly, stable, and prosperous border.
According to the schedule, this evening, the Prime Minister will visit and meet with officials and staff of the Embassy, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
