(Baonghean.vn) - From October 12 to 14, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium and the President of the European Union (EU) Commission, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung led a delegation of the Vietnamese Government and a number of businesses to Belgium at 4:00 p.m. (local time).

Welcoming the Prime Minister at Brumil Military Airport were the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Chief of Protocol of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Mr. Rudy Huygelen, representatives of the Belgian Government, representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community in Belgium and embassy staff. In particular, welcoming the Vietnamese Prime Minister during this visit were Ambassadors of ASEAN countries, the EU Ambassador to Vietnam, ambassadors of several European countries, Cuba, Brazil and representatives of the Francophone Organization in Belgium.

The purpose of this official visit to the European Union includes many important contents. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso will issue a Vietnam-EU political statement on the conclusion of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the EU. At the same time, the Prime Minister and President of the European Commission will witness the signing ceremony of the European Commission's commitment to provide 400 million Euros to Vietnam for the 2014-2020 period, an increase of 30% compared to the commitment in the previous fiscal period. The two sides will discuss strengthening cooperation at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, ASEM, and ASEAN-EU. Next, the Prime Minister and President of the European Council Herman Achille Van Rompuy will hold talks and issue a Press Release.
