On the sidelines of the 23rd ASEAN Summit in Brunei, on the morning of October 10, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Expressing his delight at the positive development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated US Secretary of State John Kerry and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh for just initialing the Cooperation Agreement on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
This is a positive development, an important step in creating a legal basis for Vietnam to access high US technology on nuclear energy and promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in the field of civil nuclear energy in the future.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed the results achieved in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations, including reaffirming the determination to conclude negotiations in 2013 to have a high-quality Agreement that balances interests and takes into account the diversity in development levels of member countries.
Pleased that the two countries have initialed the Agreement on Cooperation on the Use of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the implementation of the Agreement will contribute to strongly promoting economic cooperation between the United States and Vietnam.
Secretary of State John Kerry affirmed that the US Government attaches importance to promoting cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment... and at the same time quickly implementing negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement as well as cooperation agreements between the two countries.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Secretary of State John Kerry had a frank and constructive discussion on a number of issues of mutual concern, including ensuring human rights and freedom of information.
Previously, Secretary of State John Kerry and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh initialed the Cooperation Agreement on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes./.
