Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrives in the capital Nay Pyi Taw

On the afternoon of May 10, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese delegation arrived in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, to begin activities to attend the 24th ASEAN Summit from May 10-11.

Welcoming Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the airport, on the Myanmar side were Myanmar Minister of Health Dr. Pe Thet Khin, Myanmar Ambassador to Vietnam; and representatives of the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Pham Thanh Dung; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Vu Dang Dung...

With the theme “Uniting towards a peaceful and prosperous community”, the 24th ASEAN Summit will focus on the implementation of the Roadmap for the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015, preparations for the Community’s development phase after 2015, the Community’s foreign relations as well as exchange of regional and international issues of mutual concern, in which the East Sea issue will continue to be an issue of concern at this Summit.

The main activities of the Conference will take place on May 11, including the Opening Ceremony, Plenary Session, Retreat Session, Meeting between ASEAN Senior Leaders and Representatives of the ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Youth and Civil Society, and Closing Session.

According to the program, tonight (May 10), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese delegation will attend a solemn reception to welcome the 24th ASEAN Summit, chaired by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Thein Sein and his wife.
