The delegation accompanying Prime Minister Abe includes representatives from more than 25 leading Japanese enterprises to promote trade and investment relations. It is expected that during the visit, the two sides will sign many cooperation documents.

Speaking to the press on January 11, Japanese Deputy Ambassador Yanagi Jun said that the visit to Vietnam is the final leg of Prime Minister Abe's six-day tour. Before Vietnam, Mr. Abe will visit the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia.

During this visit, the two sides will continue to cooperate in enhancing maritime law enforcement capacity (committing to providing new patrol vessels to Vietnam) and promote security dialogue and defense cooperation.

Japanese Deputy Ambassador Yanagi Jun also added that during his visit to Vietnam, the Japanese Prime Minister will also affirm his commitment to promoting trade liberalization, specifically cooperation to soon implement the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) and soon complete the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP).

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made many positive contributions to promoting Vietnam-Japan relations. He has visited Vietnam twice. During his first visit in 2006, Mr. Abe established the framework of relations “Towards building a comprehensive strategic partnership” with Vietnam, which laid the foundation for signing the Joint Statement on upgrading the two countries’ relations to an extensive strategic partnership in 2014.

Mr. Abe chose Vietnam as his first visit after being elected as Prime Minister of Japan for the second term in December 2013 and was the first leader among the G7 countries to invite the Vietnamese Prime Minister to attend the expanded G7 Summit.
