Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrives in Hanoi.

The plane carrying Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 1:15 PM on January 16th. This marks Abe's third visit to Vietnam as Prime Minister, demonstrating the development of the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership amidst a complex global context.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Vietnam from January 16-17, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and then hold meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend and speak at the Vietnam-Japan Business Forum held in Hanoi. Mr. Abe will also chair a meeting with Vietnamese and Japanese journalists.

The plane carrying Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 1:15 PM today, January 16th.

The delegation accompanying Prime Minister Abe includes representatives from more than 25 leading Japanese businesses, aiming to promote trade and investment relations. It is expected that several cooperation agreements will be signed between the two sides during the visit.

Speaking to the press on January 11th, Japanese Deputy Ambassador Yanagi Jun said that the visit to Vietnam was the final leg of Prime Minister Abe's six-day tour. Before Vietnam, Mr. Abe will visit the Philippines, Australia, and Indonesia in succession.

During this visit, the two sides will continue to cooperate in strengthening maritime law enforcement capabilities (with a commitment to provide new patrol vessels to Vietnam) and promote security dialogue and defense cooperation.

Japanese Deputy Ambassador Yanagi Jun also added that during his visit to Vietnam, the Japanese Prime Minister will reaffirm his commitment to promoting trade liberalization, specifically cooperation to expedite the implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the early completion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made many positive contributions to promoting Vietnam-Japan relations. He has visited Vietnam twice. During his first visit in 2006, Abe established the framework for relations "Towards building a comprehensive strategic partnership" with Vietnam, paving the way for the signing of the Joint Declaration to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014.

Mr. Abe chose Vietnam as his first destination after being elected Prime Minister of Japan for his second term in December 2013, and he was the first leader among G7 countries to invite the Vietnamese Prime Minister to attend the G7 Expanded Summit.
