Senegal Prime Minister Aminata Toure forms new government
On September 2, Senegal's new Prime Minister, Ms. Aminata Toure, formed a new government in this West African country.
Notably, the list of 32 cabinet members of Prime Minister Toure does not include the Tourism Minister of the previous government, Youssou Ndour, a famous singer who turned to politics and joined the cabinet in April 2012, after being disqualified from running for president in March of the same year.

According to an announcement from the Senegalese presidency late on September 2, he has been appointed as an advisor to the President.
In addition, lawyer Sidiki Kaba was appointed as Minister of Justice, a position held by Ms. Toure in the previous government.
Previously, on September 1, Senegalese President Macky Sall appointed Ms. Toure as Prime Minister to replace Mr. Abdoul Mbaye, after his government was dissolved after 17 months in office.
Thus, Ms. Toure is the second woman to take the helm of the Senegalese government since the country gained independence in 1960.
Previously, Ms. Mame Madio Boye held this position from March 2011 to November 2012.
Prime Minister Toure is known for anti-corruption cases involving high-ranking officials during her time as Justice Minister.
She is also known for pushing for the trial of former Chad leader Hissene Habre, who was indicted for crimes against humanity during the period 1982-1990./.
