Vietnamese Prime Minister departs for working trip to Europe

Early morning of June 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Hanoi to begin a working trip to three European countries, including the Republic of France, the Republic of Estonia and the Kingdom of Sweden.

During this working trip, the Prime Minister will attend the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3); conduct bilateral activities in the French Republic, and pay official visits to the Republic of Estonia and the Kingdom of Sweden from June 5-14, 2025, at the invitation of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia Kristen Michal and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife on the working trip included: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister, Head of the Government Office Tran Van Son; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Deputy Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long; Deputy Minister of National Defense, Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai; Deputy Minister of Finance Ho Sy Hung; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long; Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang; Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chu Hoang Ha; Vietnamese Ambassador to Finland and Estonia Pham Thi Thanh Binh; Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang; Vietnamese Ambassador to Sweden Tran Van Tuan.

This is the first time the Prime Minister of Vietnam has attended the United Nations Ocean Conference; the first time the Prime Minister has visited France since the two countries upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (October 2024); the first visit to Sweden in 6 years by the Prime Minister of Vietnam; and the first time a key leader of Vietnam has visited Estonia since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992.

Following the vibrant high-level foreign affairs activities of the Party and State leaders in recent times, this working trip of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is a practical step in implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness, comprehensive, deep and effective international integration of the 13th National Party Congress and is an important foreign affairs activity to promote the implementation of Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the third United Nations Ocean Conference aims to contribute to the implementation of Resolution No. 36 of the Central Committee on the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Marine Economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045; strongly demonstrating Vietnam's commitment to being an active and responsible member of the international community, promoting multilateralism, the role of the United Nations and compliance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) in resolving maritime and ocean issues, thereby contributing to strongly spreading the message of a proactive, positive, responsible Vietnam ready to promote cooperation and partnership for a blue, peaceful, stable, sustainable and prosperous ocean as the conference aims for.

On the bilateral level, the visit will further deepen the relationship between Vietnam and France, Sweden and Estonia, countries with important roles and positions in Europe. France is currently a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, while Estonia and Sweden are traditional friends and have multifaceted cooperative relations with Vietnam.

At the same time, the working trip also aims to promote deeper cooperation with the European Union (EU), promote the role of a bridge for multi-faceted cooperation between EU and ASEAN countries, enhance coordination in solving regional and global issues, and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in each region and in the world.
