On the afternoon of September 13, in Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province, the groundbreaking ceremony of Quang Ngai Industrial-Urban-Service Complex took place. This is the 5th Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Vietnam with the familiar name VSIP and is also a vivid demonstration of the close, trustworthy and effective Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Singapore.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong attended and gave the order to start construction of this important project. Also attending the groundbreaking ceremony of VSIP Quang Ngai were former President Tran Duc Luong, leaders of several ministries and branches of the two countries, and leaders of several localities.
VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial-Urban-Service Complex Project is the 5th Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) project in Vietnam after the previous success of 4 VSIP projects in Binh Duong, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong. To date, VSIP industrial parks have attracted 490 investors from 22 countries and territories with a total investment value of over 6 billion USD, while creating jobs and stable income for 140,000 workers.
VSIP Quang Ngai project includes a 600-hectare industrial park in Son Tinh district, located in Dung Quat economic zone and a 520-hectare urban area adjacent to the center of Quang Ngai city.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Singaporean Prime Minister affirmed that VSIPs, first established in Binh Duong in 1996, have quickly become a brand and symbol of successful and effective economic cooperation between the two countries, truly contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam over the past 17 years. The two Prime Ministers also emphasized that the newly established Strategic Partnership between the two countries will pave the way for and promote the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized: The groundbreaking ceremony of VSIP Quang Ngai is of special significance as it takes place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, while VSIP has expanded this model to all three regions of the North, Central and South of Vietnam. In order for VSIP Quang Ngai to continue the success of other VSIPs in Binh Duong, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested that leaders of all sectors and levels of Quang Ngai province coordinate well with the investor during the project implementation process. The two sides need to give special priority to the application of modern scientific and technological advances, advanced management skills, along with focusing on environmental protection and ensuring social security for local people.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized: “I would like to affirm that the Vietnamese Government always creates the most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Singapore. We are actively improving infrastructure, perfecting the legal system, reforming administrative procedures, and actively participating in negotiating many free trade agreements (FTAs), including the TPP agreement, to create the most favorable environment possible for investors. I would also like to announce that the Vietnamese Government is implementing the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway project with the hope that this route will be a new traffic route connecting the chain of urban areas and industrial parks along the coastal provinces of Central Vietnam.”
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong affirmed that the Vietnam-Singapore VSIP industrial parks have improved their quality by attracting more capital-intensive and higher value-added industries such as pharmaceuticals, precision technology and high-end consumer products. Singaporean businesses look forward to continuing to promote cooperation with Vietnamese partners in areas with great potential.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong emphasized: “VSIP Quang Ngai will bring a new standard in infrastructure quality and environment. The vacant land that we see today will quickly become bustling when the industrial park begins operations. This industrial park will also be complemented by a commercial and residential complex in the south of Quang Ngai, serving VSIP workers and Quang Ngai city residents. VSIP will contribute to the vibrancy of Quang Ngai with bustling factories, convenient housing and a healthy living environment.”
At the groundbreaking ceremony of VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial-Urban-Service Complex, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong witnessed Quang Ngai provincial leaders award investment certificates to three foreign investors with a total investment capital of 115 million USD and attracting about 11,000 workers when the projects come into operation. Also this morning, Sembcorp Group and VSIP awarded funding for a clean water project serving about 14,000 people in Son Tinh and Binh Son districts of Quang Ngai province./.
