Storm No. 1 killed 4 people and caused more than 3,400 billion VND in damage. The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to seriously learn from this storm.

On the morning of July 31, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc returned to Nam Dinh to inspect and direct the recovery work after storm No. 1. This was the province that suffered the most damage in storm No. 1 that made landfall on July 27-28, followed by Thai Binh, Ha Nam, and Ninh Binh provinces.

Faced with the flooded rice area in four localities reaching more than 200,000 hectares, accounting for about one-third of the agricultural area of the Red River Delta, the Prime Minister requested immediate focus on saving rice and crops, minimizing damage.

Regarding forecasting, leaders of Nam Dinh province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the recent forecast information for level 1 storm was inaccurate, causing localities to be passive in response.

Specifically, the forecast wind level of the storm is only level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, but in reality, in coastal areas, the wind gusts to level 13 and in the city, it gusts to level 12.

In particular, the storm lasted from 5 to 7 hours compared to the usual 1 to 2 hours, causing the locality to suffer losses of more than 2,300 billion VND. Of which, agriculture, forestry and salt production suffered losses of up to 730 billion VND, and aquaculture 367 billion VND.

Compared to storm Son Tinh 4 years ago, the damage caused by storm No. 1 was 7 times greater.

Faced with the above reality, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the hydrometeorological agency to draw profound lessons from the recent forecasting of storm No. 1, and to gather many sources of information and make specific analysis with the highest sense of responsibility to reduce damage to the people.

The Prime Minister also requested that provinces and cities across the country be vigilant and ready to prevent storms and floods, closely monitor the developments of storm No. 2, be vigilant, and take precautions against storm circulation causing heavy rain and landslides.
