Currently, Vietnam's main exports to Laos include textiles, footwear, plastic products, rice, computers, electronic products and components, electrical wires and cables, etc. Main imports from Laos include wood and wood products, base metals, complete automobiles, tobacco raw materials and components, and other items. The structure of exports and imports is diverse in terms of types and designs. Increasingly, Vietnamese products are being introduced and accepted in the Lao market. Trade between the two countries is divided into three groups: goods enjoying a 0% preferential tariff rate; goods enjoying a 50% tariff reduction compared to the AFTA free trade area tariff rate; and goods not enjoying preferential tariff rates.

Both sides have also been implementing important agreements such as the Cooperation Strategy 2011-2020 and the Cooperation Agreement for the period 2011-2015. One of the coordinated activities that has been successfully promoted and implemented is the organization of trade fairs. In practice, these fairs provide an opportunity for businesses in Vietnam and Laos to promote and showcase the growth of their products and industries. They also offer a good opportunity for businesses from both countries to cooperate in building a comprehensive import and export network, contributing to increased bilateral trade turnover. Within the framework of the fairs, in addition to introducing and displaying Vietnamese export products, there is also a Vietnam-Laos business networking program, creating opportunities for businesses from both countries to meet, exchange experiences, and find partners to negotiate long-term business commitments.
Nghe An borders three provinces of the Lao People's Democratic Republic: Bolikhamsai, Xieng Khouang, and Hua Phan. It has the Nam Can International Border Gate, the Thanh Thuy National Border Gate, and three sub-border gates: Thong Thu, Tam Hop, and Cao Veu, along with numerous other crossings, creating favorable conditions for trade, exchange of goods, and movement of people and vehicles across the border between the two countries.
In addition to issuing numerous mechanisms and policies to expand and develop trade relations with Laos, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has planned the construction of border economic zones and coordinated the development of border markets according to the general planning scheme of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Accordingly, there are 30 border markets in the 6 border districts of Nghe An, including 3 border gate markets: Thanh Thuy (Thanh Chuong), Thong Thu (Que Phong), and Nam Can (Ky Son). Of these, 7 markets are currently in operation.
Among the border markets on your side is the Din Dam market (Noong Het district, Xieng Khouang province), located near the Nam Can border gate. Built in 2006, it serves as a major trading hub for people in the border region between Nghe An and Xieng Khouang provinces. The market mainly operates for the last 2-3 days of the month. Approximately 100 traders have stalls there. The main goods traded are agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, food, consumer goods, and beverages. Average annual sales are around 7 billion VND. Currently, the Din Dam market is undergoing an upgrade and expansion project by the Ministries of Industry and Trade of both countries and the provinces of Nghe An and Xieng Khouang.
Along with trade activities, the Nghe An provincial leadership has focused on strengthening and expanding economic cooperation and investment with provinces in Laos. From 2010 to the present, more than 30 additional businesses from Nghe An have entered the Lao market, bringing the total number of Nghe An businesses involved in import-export and investment activities in Laos to nearly 100; from 2010 to the end of 2012, the total import-export turnover with Laos of Nghe An reached US$172,713,821…
