Promoting the Vietnam-France Strategic Partnership

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of always attaching importance to developing the strategic partnership with France, in which economic cooperation is a pillar.

On the morning of July 22, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai received Ms. Fleur Pellerin - Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade, Tourism Promotion and French People Abroad, under the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, who is visiting and working in our country.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai welcomed Ms. Fleur Pellerin's visit to Vietnam, considering it an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the economic strategic partnership as well as cooperation in various fields that have been increasingly developing in recent times. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of always attaching importance to developing the strategic partnership with France, in which economic cooperation is a pillar.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that France continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese partners to promote the effective implementation of cooperation projects in Vietnam; create favorable conditions for French investors to participate in areas in which Vietnam is encouraging investment such as: Development of new energy, renewable energy, supporting industries, high-tech industries, green technology, etc.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that in the coming time, France should expand flexible forms of ODA provision to Vietnam, cooperate in implementing the PPP (public-private partnership) model; support and promote negotiations on the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement to soon complete the signing by the end of this year, as well as have impacts so that the EU soon recognizes Vietnam's market economy status.

French Secretary of State Fleur Pellerin was pleased to see that the France-Vietnam strategic partnership is developing well in the fields of politics, cultural diplomacy and economic cooperation, especially after the recent visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to France.

Ms. Fleur Pellerin expressed her support and appreciation for Vietnam’s stance and measures to resolve China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in the East Sea. Ms. Fleur Pellerin said France hopes that the issue in the East Sea will be resolved peacefully on the basis of international law.

Briefing on the results of the delegation's work in Vietnam, the French State Council expressed its hope that the Vietnamese Government will continue to support and have many solutions on policies and mechanisms to create conditions for French enterprises to continue to cooperate, invest and do business in Vietnam long-term.

Ms. Fleur Pellerin said that accompanying the visit were many leading French businesses and corporations with the desire to explore trade and investment opportunities in the fields of banking, construction, electricity production under the form of BOT, gas, and some ODA funding programs...
