May 8, 2014 20:18

(Baonghean.vn) - This afternoon, May 8, comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with relevant departments and branches on the implementation of policies for commune-level agricultural extension officers in the province.

Nghe An currently has 468 commune agricultural extension officers and 5,573 rural and hamlet agricultural extension officers. On August 1, 2010, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 58 stipulating a new allowance level for commune agricultural extension officers of 0.5 times the minimum wage coefficient. However, this allowance level is too low, while according to Resolution 117/2013/NQ-HDND, the team of commune, hamlet and hamlet agricultural extension officers is not on the list of non-professional positions entitled to allowances in communes, blocks, hamlets, villages and hamlets, causing difficulties in maintaining and ensuring the operation of the commune-level agricultural extension officer system. Determining the role of the grassroots agricultural extension system is extremely necessary, at the working session, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed to immediately increase the allowance for grassroots agricultural extension workers from 0.5 to 0.8 of the minimum wage - equal to the positions of Plant Protection and Veterinary officers according to Decision 14/2014/QD.UBND dated January 27, 2014 of the Provincial People's Committee.

After listening to the discussion of the meeting participants, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the role of the grassroots agricultural extension team in disseminating agricultural policies, training to improve capacity for rural workers, and building models of transferring technical advances to farmers. This team plays a key role in organizing and building production development models under the national target program on new rural construction and building large-scale model fields. The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture to coordinate with relevant departments and branches to conduct surveys and investigate the current situation of agricultural extension officers in 468 agricultural production communes to clearly understand the data and performance of the officers holding concurrent positions to advise and propose solutions to the Provincial People's Committee.
