Implement synchronous solutions to limit traffic accidents

(Baonghean.vn) - On January 2, 2014, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in 2013 and deploy tasks for 2014. Attending the conference were comrades Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Permanent Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee; representatives of provincial departments, branches and 21 districts, cities and towns.

The 2013 Traffic Safety Year has the theme: "Improving the sense of responsibility of public servants and the self-awareness of traffic participants". The direction and operation to ensure traffic safety has had a strong change. The traffic safety situation in Nghe An has had many positive changes, traffic accidents have decreased in all three criteria of number of cases, number of deaths and number of injuries.

The whole province had 333 traffic accidents, killing 222 people and injuring 286 people. Compared to the same period in 2012, there were 3 fewer accidents, 2 fewer deaths, and 68 fewer injuries. Of which, 319 road accidents occurred, killing 210 people and injuring 283 people; 14 railway accidents occurred, killing 12 people and injuring 3 people.

At the conference, delegates contributed many opinions, pointing out the existing causes that need to be focused on overcoming in the coming time such as: The traffic safety situation in the province is still complicated, although traffic accidents have decreased in all 3 criteria, the reduction level is still small, not sustainable, road traffic accidents tend to increase; the work of inspection and handling of traffic safety violations is still lacking in synchronization and close coordination between relevant forces; State management in the field of transport business activities still reveals many shortcomings; Some roads are seriously degraded due to oversized and overloaded vehicles operating, but inspection and handling are not strict and effective. The situation of encroachment and re-encroachment of traffic corridors and urban sidewalks for markets, business... in some localities such as Vinh City, Nam Dan, Do Luong, Anh Son, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau... is happening a lot; In particular, 9/21 localities have an increasing number of deaths due to traffic accidents.

Speaking at the Conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of sectors and levels in ensuring traffic safety. He noted that currently, traffic accidents have decreased but not sustainably. Therefore, sectors and localities need to be more drastic in synchronous solutions and implement key tasks to ensure traffic safety. It is necessary to strengthen the leadership and regular direction of Party committees at all levels, authorities, sectors and mass organizations in ensuring traffic safety and reducing traffic congestion; focus on disseminating and popularizing legal regulations on the management of passenger and cargo transport activities in the fields of roads, railways, inland waterways... to agencies, units, transport enterprises and vehicle operators. Innovate the work of disseminating, popularizing and educating the law on traffic safety and order to all classes of people to raise awareness of voluntarily complying with the law when participating in traffic, promoting the development of traffic culture; Strengthen inspection, examination and strict handling of traffic safety violations; continue to implement breakthrough solutions to overcome traffic congestion on national highways and cities...

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 15 groups and 13 individuals with outstanding achievements in ensuring traffic safety and order in 2013.
