Successfully performed the first skull bone transplant surgery
(Baonghean) -Nghe An Northwest Regional General Hospital has just successfully performed the first skull bone transplant surgery for patient Le Xuan Quyen (29 years old) in Lam Son block, Quang Tien ward, Thai Hoa town using the method of transplanting a broken skull bone piece.
Patient Le Xuan Quyen was admitted to Nghe An Northwestern Regional General Hospital 3 months ago and was diagnosed by doctors with traumatic brain injury, intracranial hematoma, and skull fracture due to a motorbike accident. After 2 hours of surgery, the surgical team removed the broken bone fragment, cleaned it, and implanted it using the muscle layer in the patient's abdomen.
Recently, patient Quyen had a second surgery to remove the implanted bone fragment from his abdomen and place it in his skull to patch up the missing skull bone. Patient Quyen was completely conscious and healthy after the surgery, and the implanted bone fragment has healed.
