People harvest corn to sell to TH farm |
In 2015, realizing that people did not have much land left after harvesting two rice crops, Mr. Chu Duy Phong and Mr. Ho Trong Mao (Dien Truong, Dien Chau) combined to borrow land from people to grow corn on an area of 22 hectares to sell to TH Dairy Company. To be able to carry out this intention, the two households hired people to dredge ditches, do irrigation, and at the same time rented machinery and zoned the land for planting. This was the first time people applied this method in Dien Truong area but it brought high economic efficiency.
After proposing the idea of borrowing land, the two families were approved by the villagers, each household lent an average of 3-5 sao. Of the total 22 hectares of corn, Mr. Mao borrowed 12 hectares and Mr. Phong borrowed 10 hectares. The methods and ways of growing corn were drawn from the two men's long-term farming experiences and also from agricultural extension classes and the internet.
Because of the large area, the family hired workers to do the work from planting to harvesting with a salary of 120,000 VND/day, mainly from the people in the area who were free. In the initial stage of sowing, the two families hired 70 workers with a total salary of 8.5 million VND/day.
The care stage only employs 1/3 of the workers, about 25 people, and the harvesting stage, selling to the company, requires the most workers, about 80 people, with an amount of 9.6 million VND/day. In addition, Mr. Mao said that the cost of renting machinery is 140 thousand VND/day, in addition to other costs such as phosphate fertilizer, rat poison, etc.

Add jobs to some of the local idle labor during corn harvest season. |
After more than 3 months of planting, the corn will be harvested and sold to the dairy company. The average yield is 2 tons of fresh corn/sao, 40 tons of corn plants/ha. The price ranges from 800,000 VND - 900,000 VND/ton. On average, each sao brings in 2 million VND in income. Each hectare brings in about 40 million VND for two families.
The total harvested area brings in an income of up to 800 million VND. During the harvest season, every day there are 2-3 trucks with a capacity of about 45 tons coming to the area to purchase. If two families hire a truck to transport the crop, the company will pay the transportation fee upon arrival. After deducting expenses, each person has a profit of about 60 million VND/crop (3 months).
