Cancer drug Avastin may cause fasciitis
Canadian scientists have recently discovered that the cancer drug Avastin may be the cause of life-threatening fasciitis in patients.
A reporter in Ottawa cited the research results of a team of experts from the Canadian Ministry of Health, saying that through monitoring patients using the drug Avastin to treat cancer, two cases of fasciitis were initially discovered, one of whom died.

Fasciitis develops rapidly, often lasting only 24 hours, and is potentially life-threatening. It often develops in people with skin or soft tissue infections, sometimes through a small skin injury or surgical wound. People with diabetes or cancer are at particular risk because their immune systems are weakened.
Symptoms include sudden, severe pain in the affected area. The patient may then develop a fever, and the wound may become swollen, red, or have blisters under the skin. The skin around the wound may also peel or change color.
The Canadian Ministry of Health has issued warnings accompanying the cancer treatment product Avastin manufactured by La Roche Ltd. The warning states that anyone who has been using Avastin, if experiencing similar symptoms as above or discovering other unusual signs, should quickly go to a medical facility for examination.
Avastin is commonly used to treat brain-related cancers, or in combination with chemotherapy in the treatment of colon, rectal and lung cancers./.
