Before and after Tet until now, a group of Chinese traders with Vietnamese interpreters have come to households in Vinh Long province to negotiate the planting of okra for export as requested.

According to Mr. Le Van Trung, Chairman of Thanh Loi Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Binh Tan district), because they could not reach an agreement with the people, Chinese traders turned to contact Thanh Loi Cooperative.

To gain the trust of okra growers, Chinese traders have deposited nearly 50 million VND to invest in a cold storage system and okra preservation machine at the cooperative. At the same time, traders also requested to expand the okra growing area many times over the current size.

Up to now, the local government has not yet had an official opinion on this phenomenon. However, surely the public has not forgotten the stories of Chinese traders who, after a period of massively purchasing agricultural products such as purple sweet potatoes and strange products such as golden apple snails, leeches, dried cashew leaves... then suddenly stopped purchasing, leaving the people with considerable losses.
